Anime Weekly Review: Spring 2015 (26.6-1.7.)

A worthy finale for those shows remaining. Hibike! Euphonium tops everything else until the end.

Just three more were left (well, technically two but the final 2 episodes from Vivid only came out slightly after the last post). These were all worthy ends, however, and Spring ends on a high note, underlining the general good feel about this season.

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha Vivid: Well, the subs took their sweet time but it was worth the wait. And there's hope for more. Sure, I'd rather have something original, with the old crew, like that third movie we've been promised for so long now... But I take what I can get. The Einhart VS Corona fight definitely was well chosen for a stopping point. Still, the problem is that the source material is so lighthearted the pace tended to be fairly monotone throughout all the episodes which is really unworthy of the franchise.

Fairy Tail: It looks like Fairy Tail might have bit off more than they can chew... or do they? Probably not. Interestingly enough, this is the first episode in ages that has Natsu and Lisanna together, alone, in close proximity albeit being captured and locked up. That particular romantic interest from the past seems to have been completely forgotten...

Plastic Memories: I admit it. I did cry a few tears at the end. At the very least, after all the severe disappointment midway through the series, Plastic Memories has at least recovered just in time for the finale. If everything had been as well done as this episode and not to mention kept it at that level instead of being so very misleading, it might have saved this anime a lot of points. As it is, the strong ending does not make us forget the poor execution until we reached this point.

One Piece: More fighting, Doffy is really mad now and Law is down... AGAIN?! This is becoming a bad habit for someone supposedly so powerful. ^_^

Go Princess Precure: I rest my case. So utterly predictable. Obviously Toei themselves felt no great need to make any kind of mystery about this direction considering the fourth Precure was already included and well-spoilered in the footage for the upcoming movie(s). Honestly, One Piece aside I feel Toei isn't even trying anymore these days. I just say I called it as soon as Towa's name and story fell... and probably had a strong suspicion about Twilight before.

Hibike! Euphonium: Splendid, excellent. It is rare to find a final episode that doesn't even do anything special, instead keeping to its well-established concept and still managing to work so well. I was literally fidgeting with the cast at the end. A masterful end to a masterful series. Hibike! Euphonium is officially the indicator for all that may follow this year.

Kyoukai no Rinne: And more with the love triangle (which will officially become a fourway next episode it seems). Frankly, I am not so sure it works with this series but some of it was still funny.

Final Season Review is already in the making and should hopefully be out around the weekend.
