New Trainers of Pokémon Cannot Sync Their Game. Nintendo Does Nothing!

For at least over two weeks now, new players of Pokémon Sun and Moon have been unable to sync their Game ID on Nintendo's website, yet the problem is adamantly ignored by Nintendo.

The registration period for the Alola Friendly ended on the 26th of January this year. Yet while most veteran players can enjoy their new online competition, there are nothing but long faces with players who just got into Pokémon or returned from missing on several generations. The reason? Nintendo requires players to sync their game on the website provided for that purpose, however, upon registration any attempted login to the Global Link website simply refreshes the page instead of bringing up the screen to register your game's ID. Other areas of the website are available through the account and player's that have registered an ID before can apparently still access the registration screen. Everyone that needs an ID registered for the first time, however, is met with nothing but frustration. Here is a video a user afflicted by this has made that shows the problem.

The point of origin for this problem is not quite clear. Earliest accounts appeared from around the middle of January but it could very well have been longer than this. So you would think by now something would be done about this, yes? Alas, no. Support requests are rebuffed with a standard/automatic reply like "This is a known issue. We are hoping to fix it soon." Worse yet, Nintendo not just blatantly pretends the issue does not exist, making no attempt to even inform their users and as such leaving them to wonder what is wrong unless they stumble over an obscure thread somewhere. No, recently they actually went about showing nicely how to register on the front page... all the while making no attempt to address or even mention the inability of all new trainers to actually do so.

So... Does Nintendo simply not care? Do they not care about new fans/players? Neither is appropriate considering how much they lost since the Wii. If this is the kind of policy that Nintendo runs, then it is doubtful that they will gain back many players with the Switch. Especially a planned paid online service in light of Nintendo's apparent inability to handle their online activity seems like a bad, tasteless joke.

With this article I speak in the name of all those that are suffering under this ridiculous and sad state of affairs. If you read this article, please take a moment of your time to make it known or point them to the appropriate thread on Gamefaqs here where most of us have gathered in mutual frustration. Not just to increase public pressure on Nintendo but also to spread the word to all those unaware of the problem's true nature who do not know why they cannot sync their game. The next Global Mission is upon us soon and as it stands, we may very well miss this one and the potential rewards as well.
