Merry Christmas!
The year is ending and so is
the season. More anime came to an end this week, only leaving the final episode
of Valkyrie Drive in fact. For that there was not quite as much explosiveness
as one would expect but enough to keep things interesting. I'll make one last
quick one of these later the week and follow it up with a quick season review
before working on my yearly report... after that. Well, I plan to reconstruct a
few things since no one here deems to comment anyway but that is for next year.
The new Star Wars IS
surprisingly great. I will withhold comments until I've seen it at least a
second time which will probably not happen this year.
Fairy Tail: The
"end" came quite sudden in a surprising way. This was not a sudden,
climatic finish. But more a long, dramatic finish sequenced into many small but
powerful explosions of action and emotion. And finally ending in one final
waterworks moment. Apparently we certainly are not done yet with the story (I
would hope) and after this glorious arc, I am glad about that. Poor Natsu, to
be reunited after so long, only to lose Igneel once more and this time for
good.
Asterisk War: A good
stopping point I guess. I am somewhat conflicted here as on one hand I am glad
that the focus staid mostly with the main pair – not the mess Absolute Duo
created –, on the other hand I feel miffed that we barely got to see more of
Saya and Kirin who showed a lot of promise as well. Oh well, got to wait until
the second half in Spring. I am definitely looking forward to it. One of the
more solid entries of its type in a long time for sure.
Valkyrie Drive: Woo, that
was surprisingly great again. It's really not the greatest story but I think
this series has done a lot more than just drive up the fetishes and sexiness.
One Piece: Gack, is that guy
immortal or something? Honestly, what will it take to take Doffy down? Well, it
seems we won't be done with that battle before New Year's after all.
Go Princess Precure: Booooring...
^_^ No, really. The series really and utterly failed to make Minami even halfway
interesting. The rich girl worrying herself to death over not wanting to do
what her parents expect her to do (or what she expects her parents to expect
her to do) is such an old routine that at least some effort would have to be
put into it. Which hasn't happened. The final scene honestly was just the nail
in the coffin. Minami's worries would have been given some substances at least
if her parents really would have been strict and hard to get along with. From
the flashback and their current personality someone as smart as Minami should
have realized this was going to happen. In the end she's portrayed as nothing like
an unreasonable worrywart. And "overcoming" that (technically
everyone around her makes her "overcome" it) somehow qualifies to
revive the castle... right. Moving along. Getting close to the finish.
Hidan no Aria AA: I honestly
didn't see the end result coming. Aria practically renounced Arika already and
for pretty good and non-malicious reasons. This series is honestly
contradicting itself on this issues various times swinging back and forth with
little connection... Ugh. Why did I watch this again? Once again there was
absolutely no suspense in there despite it being the last episode and final
"fight". It's a good thing it is over now.
